A warm welcome for all ages and all abilities

OUR LADIES SECTION

The Ladies’ Section at Burgham Park is a warm and welcoming group that embraces golfers of all abilities. We strive to make every new member’s transition into the club a positive experience by offering opportunities to participate in competitions, fun golf events, and social activities.

While our main competitions are held on Saturdays, we also provide plenty of opportunities for both competitive and social golf throughout the week. Whether you prefer 9 or 18 holes, or are looking for casual rounds or competition play, we ensure everyone feels included and catered for.

Our Ladies’ Get into Golf sessions run fortnightly during the season on Sundays from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon. These sessions include putting, pitching, and irons practice, along with fun practice games, all wrapped up with a coffee, cake, or even a gin and tonic! During the winter, we continue practicing or head onto the course as weather allows. If you're interested, please reach out to Gill at gill@cabrit.co.uk.

We love nothing more than sharing a good chat about missed putts, long drives, and life beyond golf—often over a coffee, a slice of apple cake, or a cheese scone in the bar after our rounds.

Ladies Opens 2026

We have an exciting year ahead with our Ladies Opens.

Our first Open will be on Thursday 6th August, a Texas Scramble -Team of 3. This team Open is a great way to enjoy competitive golf while sharing the experience with friends, where teamwork, sharing encouragement, and plenty of laughs are all part of the day.

Playing in teams takes the pressure off, making it a welcoming and enjoyable event on our lovely course. There is a handicap limit of WHS 36.0 for this Open, players with a higher handicap can play but are restricted to a maximum of WHS 36.0.

Our Ladies Academy Golf Open on Thursday 10th September is ideal for those new to the game or playing their first competition. If you've been in a Get into Golf or Academy Programme this could be the Open for you to try your first competition. Held on a beautifully presented course, it offers a relaxed and supportive setting where everyone is encouraged to enjoy their golf, experience a competition and have the chance to win a few prizes.

With a friendly welcome and an easygoing atmosphere, this is a great opportunity to gain competition experience, meet other golfers, and build confidence. Whether it’s your first event or one of many, you can expect an enjoyable day focused on fun, learning, and good company.

Our Lady Captain - Vanessa Browning

Vanessa Browning, has lived all her life in the North East. Escaping from work each evening her passion was always her horse and all things equestrian.

She was also a “golf widow”, until some 10 years ago with a if you can’t beat him at least join him attitude, she joined a beginners academy at Northumberland GC. At the same time she adopted David Mather, then professional here at Burgham Park, to become her coach and mentor. Who did a great job!

She and her husband, Martin, loved the friendly and welcoming atmosphere here and decided to become members in 2023.

Vanessa now has to give Martin two strokes and is committed to golf as her hobby (and life!!!!)

She was delighted to be invited to be the Ladies Captain in 2026 – “a great honour and quite daunting “. She is enjoying the role and is really looking forward to the year ahead with a busy programme of competitive and fun golf planned for the ladies section.
