Ladies Section 2nd in NLCGA Shield Div 3
The Burgham Ladies Section Shield team have come second in the NLCGA Shield Division 3. A fabulous achievement after being promoted from Division 4 in 2022.
The team played their final match in mid August, playing Hexham 2 at home. Hexham has a strong team set up with three teams overall (and their first team won the Northumberland League Division 1!) so the Burgham Ladies were pleased to hold them to a half - 3.5 points each.
Those points saw Burgham with a total score for the season of 24 points, finishing just behind Goswick who won the league with 27 points. The full league table can be found here - https://nlcga.co.uk/competitions/shield/division.php?division=3&season=2023
After the final game Ladies' Captain, Gill Smith said 'It's been a great season for the team. With being promoted last year, our main aim was to consolidate and make sure we stayed in the higher division, but to do as well as we have has been a fabulous effort from all those who have played for the team, Lindsey Bruce, Dot Lowes, Michelle Easton, Vicky Olney, Wendy Franklin, Teresa Gaughan, Chrisitine Hall and Fiona Newman. I would like to thank our Team Manager Dot Lowes for doing such a fabulous job over the season. The work she puts in, ensures the team can just turn up and play without any of the organisation stresses - many thanks Dot. Finally we have had some lovely matches this season with all the clubs in the division and we thank them for their friendliness and, where we've played away from home, the welcome from their clubs'
The Ladies Team will continue to play in Division 3 in the 2024 season.
